Construction and holiday traffic just north of Redding, Calif. on Interstate 5 could delay traffic up to two hours during Thanksgiving week. California’s transportation department has warned travelers of moderate to major delays in the construction zone on the Pit River Bridge over Shasta Lake Wednesday, Nov. 22-Sunday, Nov. 26.

The two-year emergency deck replacement project, being built 10 miles north of Redding, has required reducing traffic to one lane in each direction and 45 mph speeds. Delays will range from four minutes in the late afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 22 to up to two hours Sunday, Nov. 26, during the afternoon and evening hours.

Caltrans will use changeable message signs, highway advisory radio and www.dot.ca.gov/dist2 to keep motorists informed. Drivers also can call 511 on their cell phones or (800) 427-7623.
