Semi-trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. has announced that its board of directors has selected Richard J. Giromini, current president and chief operating officer, to serve as president and chief executive officer beginning Jan. 1. Giromini succeeds Bill Greubel, 55, who will remain with the company as an executive director and chairman.

Giromini, 53, joined Wabash National in 2002 as senior vice president and chief operating officer. In 2005, he was appointed president and chief operating officer, and named as a member of the company’s board of directors.

“It is with great pleasure and pride that we announce this appointment,” Greubel says. “Dick has earned this position through demonstrated leadership and exceptional performance. He has been instrumental in driving value throughout our manufacturing operations, restoring profitability to the Wabash National Trailer Centers business unit, and improving company performance through key operational and sales initiatives. I feel it is time for me to step back and allow the organization to continue to grow under Dick’s direction and leadership.”

Prior to joining Wabash National, Giromini served as senior vice president of technology and continuous improvement for Accuride. He joined Accuride as vice president and general manager of AKW in April 1998, and served as president and chief executive officer of AKW from August 1998 through April 1999. In addition, he has held several positions of increasing responsibility with ITT Automotive, Hayes Wheels International, Doehler-Jarvis Corp. and General Motors.

Headquartered in Lafayette, Ind., Wabash National specializes in the design and production of dry freight vans, refrigerated vans, flatbed trailers, drop deck trailers and intermodal equipment. Its core products are sold under the DuraPlate, ArcticLite and Eagle brand names. The company operates two wholly owned subsidiaries: Transcraft Corp., a manufacturer of flatbed and drop deck trailers; and Wabash National Trailer Centers, a retail distributor of new and used trailers and aftermarket parts throughout the United States and Canada.
