FMCSA offers grants for driver training

Interested parties have until Jan. 31 to apply for grants to train current and future drivers in the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced. The funds available in the current fiscal year were authorized in last year’s major highway legislation.

FMCSA said it will give priority to regional or multi-state educational or nonprofit associations serving economically distressed regions of the United States. Eligible awardees also can include state and local governments and accredited post-secondary educational institutions — public or private — such as colleges, universities, vocational-technical schools and truck driver training schools.

Grant applications may be filed at www.grants.gov. Applicants must register on the website at least two to five days before the deadline to ensure that the system will accept the application.
