The Forbes Platinum 400 list, known as the “Best Big Companies in America,” includes 17 companies from the transportation sector. To compile the list, Forbes said it screened more than 1,000 publicly traded companies with $1 billion or more in revenues in 26 industries.

The magazine was looking for high rankings in corporate governance as well as long- and short-term sales and earnings growth and stock market performance; the top 400 companies made the list. The 17 transportation companies are Burlington Santa Fe, EGL, Expeditors International, Federal Express, Hub Group, Landstar System, Norfolk Southern, Old Dominion Freight, Pacer International, C.H. Robinson Worldwide, SkyWest, Southwest Airlines, Swift Transportation, Union Pacific, United Parcel Service, U.S. Xpress and YRC Worldwide.

“While the Forbes listing is based chiefly on Pacer’s financial performance, we especially welcome it because consistently strong financial performance also reflects a company’s ability to consistently satisfy its customers,” says Mike Uremovich, chairman and chief executive officer of Concord, Calif.-based Pacer. “We believe being selected repeatedly for the list also validates our corporate strategy of offering a full portfolio of intermodal and logistics services, while at the same time providing integrated supply-chain solutions for customers that require such support.”
