Boyd Bros. Transportation recently announced that Richard C. Bailey has been named president. The industry veteran, with more than 20 years in trucking, has been with the Clayton, Ala.-based company for 14 years and most recently served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

Bailey, a Certified Public Accountant, was instrumental in the company’s decision to return the company to private status after being publicly traded since 1994. “I am extremely proud to work with a company with an unwavering commitment to service and safety,” he says. “Our continued ability to lead the industry rests on the shoulders of a committed work force and management team.”

In a related move, Chris Cooper, former vice president and general manager, has been promoted to COO. Gail B. Cooper will continue as chief executive officer.

“Boyd Bros. has made a dramatic transformation over the past few years, and Chris has been a big part of that,” Bailey says. “I’m very comfortable with his running the day to day operations.”

“I’m grateful that Richard and Chris have accepted this additional responsibility,” Gail Cooper says. “It ensures continued attention to excellence, safety and growth.”
