The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel climbed 2 cents to $2.849 during the week ending Monday, July 9, compared to $2.829 during the previous week. The new price was about 7 cents lower than the same week last year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
Diesel prices were up in all regions tracked by DOE. The biggest increase, 3.1 cents, was recorded in the Lower Atlantic region, where truckers paid $2.810 per gallon. The smallest price hike, 1.2 cents, was seen in the New England area, where drivers paid $2.942 per gallon.
Drivers on the West Coast once again paid the most of any region at $2.987, up 1.5 cents from the prior week; truckers in California — which DOE tracks separately — paid even more, $3.090, an increase of 2.3 cents. The Gulf Coast had the least expensive diesel at $2.785, which was an increase of nearly 2 cents from last week.
