Networkcar announced Wednesday, July 18, that it has selected the Siemens TC63 wireless module for its Networkfleet wireless vehicle management system that connects fleet managers with every aspect of their vehicle operations. The Siemens module is integrated into the Networkfleet in-vehicle device, which collects and wirelessly transmits data directly from a vehicle’s engine computer and from a global positioning system (GPS).
Networkfleet transmits GPS location and engine diagnostics wirelessly from the vehicle to a network operation center. According to the company, fleet managers can log on to a dedicated website anytime to view specific vehicle data such as current location, fuel consumption, mileage, speed, emissions and idle-time through a secure, easy-to-use Web application; customers also receive instant e-mail notifications when a vehicle goes beyond pre-set limits.
Siemens says its TC63 module covers all four GSM (global system for mobile communications) frequency bands and has the capability to provide machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity on any GSM or GPRS (general packet radio services) network throughout the world. It can be connected to a wide range of devices, enables high-speed data transfer, and operates in a wide temperature range (-30 to +65 degrees C), according to the company.
“We have a true partnership with Siemens,” says Keith Schneider, president of San Diego-based Networkcar. “They have gone above and beyond our expectations in providing support for product design and in contributing their expertise in M2M and wireless applications. With the integration of Siemens’ technology, Networkfleet customers will gain increased data transmission speed, higher reliability and wider geographic coverage.”
“For some time, Siemens has been aware of the strength of Networkcar’s position with key customers in the telematics market,” says Peter Fowler, vice president of the wireless modules division for Siemens Energy & Automation. “This partnership underscores our companies’ commitment to delivering the latest technology and capabilities to the marketplace. It is also a great opportunity to work with key members of the Networkcar team.”
