Cummins Inc. recently announced that J&R Schugel Trucking has ordered 300 trucks powered by Cummins ISX engines and equipped with Cummins ComfortGuard auxiliary power unit systems, which Cummins began producing for the marketplace eight months ago.
“Reducing emissions is important for our environment,” says Rick Schugel, president of J&R Schugel Trucking, based in New Ulm, Minn. “Increasing fuel economy and vehicle reliability are important for our bottom line. Keeping our drivers comfortable and alert is important for safety. Spec’ing the ISX 435 ST, together with the ComfortGuard APU, helps us achieve all those goals.”
Cummins says ComfortGuard is its first complete APU system for over-the-road trucks. The system combines the technology from the Cummins Onan generator with tailored HVAC components to power all hotel loads for comfort and convenience, according to Cummins; the quiet, compact and reliable system offers an effective solution to anti-idling regulations and the high cost of diesel fuel.
“We are extremely pleased to power Schugel’s fleet and to see the ComfortGuard system gaining momentum in the marketplace,” says Shawn Wasson, APU business leader for Cummins, based in Columbus, Ind. “We constantly strive to provide our customers with the right solutions for today and for the future.”
