The United Carrier Registration Association board of directors has voted to keep the 2008 UCRA fees the same as the 2007 fees. The UCR board — which represents the American Trucking Associations, the industry and state and federal governments — met on Jan. 14 and 15.
The decision to retain the 2007 fees was made to avoid the necessity of a time-consuming federal rulemaking by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which is required if the fee rate changed in 2008. Additionally, 2007 collections were at $68 million, significantly lower than the $108 million projected.
UCR registration and collection will start in March or April. Carriers can expect to receive a letter of notice from their base states when the collection process is under way.
