For the second year in a row, the New York State Motor Truck Association (NYSMTA) has recognized A. Duie Pyle as the Carrier of the Year for Safety. NYSMTA is an 800-member trade association representing the interests of the motor truck industry in New York State. The award was presented April 9 at the NYSMTA Annual Safety and Education Conference. To qualify for the award, A. Duie Pyle had to first win a preliminary award based on reportable accidents vs. mileage in New York State. A. Duie Pyle placed first in the division for medium-sized companies. They then competed against first place winners in the small and large size company divisions for the title of Carrier of the Year for Safety.

NYSMTA Acting President Kendra Adams noted that the competition for Carrier of the Year is an intense process requiring companies to submit detailed documentation on their total program, including accidents, injuries, hiring practices, training, retraining, reporting, and much more. “A. Duie Pyle was chosen for the award based on the thoroughness of the company’s safety effort,” says Adams. “They go above and beyond what is required. The company really goes the extra mile.”

Peter Dannecker, A. Duie Pyle director of loss prevention, believes that winning the award two years in a row is a tribute to Pyle people. “There is a total buy in and commitment to the health and safety of employees by company leadership,” he says.

A. Duie Pyle has been honored with numerous awards from local, state, and national organizations for its outstanding, long-term record of safety and security, and for the extensiveness of its safety programs. In 2007, Peter Dannecker was named the American Trucking Association’s National Safety Director. The company’s in-house driver training, loss prevention process, and safety records have been awarded the American Trucking Association’s (ATA) President’s Trophy, the highest safety award available to motor carriers in North America.
