Magtec Products Inc. met with senior executives of the American Trucking Associations last week to present its technology solutions for addressing security, safety and fuel cost challenges in the transportation industry.
“We know the ATA works hard to protect the interests of the trucking industry, and in the current light of the fuel crisis, we wanted to ensure they were aware of our new Speed & Idle Management (SIM) technology, along with other important solutions we bring to industry challenges,” says Robert Morisset, Magtec president and chief executive officer.
Magtec’s FleetControl and M5K focuses on driver and truck control, asset tracking and security, prevention of cargo theft, and safety and risk management. The new SIM feature enables the carrier to remotely set and control speed thresholds and idle time, enabling significant savings in fuel and operations costs, according to the company; also, its geo-fencing capabilities make it ideal when trucks are entering different speed limit areas.
“We look forward to building our relationship with Magtec,” says Bill Graves, ATA president and CEO. “As fuel prices continue to cut into motor carrier profits, the trucking industry has a vested interest in exploring all solutions to address the fuel crises. A number of us experienced firsthand the technology they are bringing to the market, and it was enlightening to see they have one solution to address the fuel situation we are currently facing.”
Magtec says the M5K has many other features, including keyless driver authentication and Unattended Idle Protect. When interfaced with its own FleetControl or another communications provider, the system can be managed from a dispatch or monitoring center and offers features such as remote driver code management, tamper notification to dispatch and Magtec’s Acceleration Control System (ACS), a vehicle immobilization technology that enables dispatch to remotely limit the acceleration capability of the vehicle and reduce the speed in preset increments so it can be brought to a safe and controlled stop, according to the company.
