Iowa Gov. Chet Culver has issued an executive order on July 16 establishing a task force to consider changes in how companies in all industries classify their workers. Composed of representatives from various state agencies, the Independent Contractor Reform Task Force will review and make recommendations on state regulations as they relate to employee misclassification.
“I believe a fair and just workplace is the right of every worker,” the governor said. “Employers who contribute to the local economy should not have to compete with those employers who choose to break the law by knowingly misclassifying their employees.”
The Teamsters union praised the action, citing among other things the recent regulatory and legal actions related to FedEx concerning misclassification.
