FT Silfies Inc., a mid-Atlantic dry bulk aggregate carrier, has launched a new company called Silfies Bulk Transport for hauling various liquid commodities. Silfies Bulk Transport will be based in Aberdeen, Md.
“We are very excited to expand our capabilities into the liquid bulk marketplace,” says Justin Risbon, operations manager of the Aberdeen location for Price Trucking, an FT Silfies company. “However, we will be a very specialized carrier, only handling certain products for certain customers. We didn’t want to confuse the marketplace or diversify our core trucking companies too far away from what they do best, as FT Silfies and Price Trucking are dry bulk aggregate carriers.”
Bruce Donovan, senior vice president of field operations for Nazareth, Pa.-based FT Silfies, says the company has an executive management team that has spent many years managing some of the top liquid carriers in the country, include Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Matlack and Quality Carriers.
“This will be a very small operation dedicated to a single customer and a single product, but we are a for-hire carrier and will look at additional opportunities as they arise,” Donovan says. “We have no plans to compete in the longhaul chemical market, but we’re very excited to be growing when the rest of the market seems to be digressing. Times are not easy, and there are certainly many barriers to entry in this economy, but when a customer requests our services, we try to find 10 ways to make it happen rather than one way to not.”
