Aljex Software — a provider of hosted management software for freight brokers, 3PLs and other transportation companies — announced it has added 16 new servers in four separate locations. All the servers are on the Internet backbone with multiple main trunk connections.
Aljex software is delivered entirely over the Internet and is available to customers around the clock from any Internet-connected computer. Customers conduct business using hosted Aljex software as though it was installed on their computers.
According to the company, the additional capacity will back up and protect customer data, assure uninterrupted service and boost the speed of Aljex service to customers. Aljex servers now are located in Denver; Philadelphia; Dallas; Asheville, N.C.; Bismarck, N.D.; and at the company’s headquarters in Middlesex, N.J.
“The 16 new servers make the system faster and our network more reliable,” says Tom Heine, Aljex president. “They also give us the capacity to add new clients in 24 hours from sign-up. We’re prepared for our next 300 clients whenever they’re ready to start.”
Heine says the 16-server upgrade provides added assurance that customer data is always safe and available. “Each of our customers is backed up to a mirrored server as well as to a common backup server,” he says. “All servers are in different geographical areas. So a client whose active server is in, say, North Carolina will also have a live backup copy in New Jersey and a data backup in North Dakota.”
At the same time, Heine said that Aljex has switched to a new high-performance disk array system called RAID 0+1. RAID, which stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, spreads data across multiple hard drives in a method called striping. A server can withstand multiple disk failures and still keep operating without halting the system or causing data loss.
“This investment underscores the confidence our customers have in us and our own confidence in the profit-driving service that we provide,” Heine says. “We have made a very large investment for our current clients at no additional cost to them.”
