Panasonic says its Toughbook 8 Series business-rugged notebook computer line replaces the 7 Series and is most suited in markets where mobility, connectivity, endurance (battery life) and reliability are necessities. The three models have distinct benefits, according to the company:

  • At 3.7 pounds, the F8 (replacing the former Y line) is the world’s lightest 3G-ready computer, with a 14.1-inch widescreen display and an optical drive. The device features an integrated handle, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 160 GB hard drive and six-hour battery life;
  • With its integrated hand strap, 12.1-inch touchscreen display and seven-hour battery life, the 3.3-pound T8 combines tablet functionality and laptop practicality; and
  • The ultralight 3-pound W8 includes a 12.1-inch screen, an optical drive and seven-hour battery life.
  • Panasonic says all of its business-rugged Toughbook notebooks include Qualcomm’s Gobi technology, allowing users to leverage a single embedded modem to switch between multiple wireless broadband carriers. The wireless technology is suited for mobile professionals that travel frequently to remote areas and/or internationally.
