Con-way Freight announced that driver sales representative Jim Slaaen has achieved two million accident-free miles. Slaaen, who reached the mark on Feb. 7 after 26 consecutive years of safe driving, was recognized for his achievement March 4 during a ceremony at the company’s Milwaukee service center, where he is based.

“Jim Slaaen’s impressive accomplishment highlights the personal and professional commitment to safety of those of our employees who go behind the wheel of a truck every day, and who make it their business to demonstrate superior safety performance on the highways, in our service centers and at our customers’ facilities,” says John G. Labrie, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Con-way Freight. “Safety is one of our core values, and we congratulate Jim for his extraordinary achievement.”

Slaaen, a resident of South Milwaukee, has been a professional truck driver for 35 years and was one of Con-way Freight’s original employees at its 1983 founding. He has received an eight-year safe driving award from the Wisconsin Motor Carriers President’s Safe Driver Club, of which he is a member. In addition, Slaaen was honored by Con-way Freight with one-, three-, five- and 10-year safety awards, and for reaching the one-million-mile mark. He drives a pickup-and-delivery route that takes him from the Milwaukee service center to Racine, Wis.
