The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission announced that Goodyear’s 2008 North America Highway Hero, Jorge Orozco-Sanchez, is one of 20 individuals from throughout the United States and Canada who were chosen as recipients of the Carnegie Medal, which is given to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.

Orozco-Sanchez was involved in a collision when an SUV crossed into his path and struck his tractor-trailer rig head-on in October 2008. He rescued two young girls who were trapped in the burning SUV, but he was unable to save the girl’s mother. For his heroic act in saving the two girls, Orozco-Sanchez was honored with the Goodyear Highway Hero award in March at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
