The U.S. average diesel price rose 4.5 cents to $3.828 a gallon during the week ended Monday, Jan. 9, ending a six-week decline, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The latest price is 49.5 cents higher than the same week last year.
Prices were higher on average in every region tracked by DOE, led by a 6.6-cent increase in the Lower Atlantic. The smallest increase was 0.7 cent in the Rocky Mountain states. The nation’s most expensive diesel was $4.111 a gallon in California, and prices also are above $4 a gallon on average in New England and the West Coast. The cheapest diesel was found in the Midwest region at $3.717.
