FedEx Corp. announced it is expanding the availability of its SenseAware powered by FedEx service designed to provide customers with near real-time tracking and increased visibility into their shipments. First announced in November 2009, the next-generation information service initially was available to customers in the healthcare and life sciences industries. Now it is available to customers in all industries.

SenseAware is a tracking service designed to provide near real-time data about customer shipments and the ability to share that information collaboratively with business partners. The multisensor device integrated with a Web-based application is designed to provide the shipment’s current location, temperature readings, when a shipment is opened or if the contents have been exposed to light, and relative humidity and barometric pressure readings.

FedEx says SenseAware can be adopted without infrastructure or large managed-service commitments, and its flexibility enables it to be used for single shipments or with large palletized shipments; customers can set up a shipment in the SenseAware application and place the activated device in the package before shipping.
