Meritor Inc. announced that employees are using “Casual Friday” fund-raisers to support military veterans and their families, as well as other local charities. Employees at the company’s headquarters in Troy, Mich., are invited to wear jeans each Friday in exchange for a $5 donation to a local charity.

Various departments volunteer to sponsor the “jeans day” events and select local charities benefitting education, health, human services, culture and the arts, or civic organizations. Meritor jeans day events have raised more than $52,000 so far in 2012.

“We view our nation’s warfighters as heroes and welcome the opportunity to give back to the men and women of the Armed Forces who are in the service of their country around the world,” says Tim Burns, Meritor’s vice president and general manager, Defense and Specialty, Industrial.
