A crane loads the 80-foot Englemann Spruce that will serve as this year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree onto Gary Amoth Trucking’s specially-decaled Kenworth T680.The 52nd U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree was loaded onto a Kenworth T680 Wednesday out of the Payette National Forest to begin its journey from Idaho to Washington, D.C.
Forest Service officials estimate the tree is about 80 years old. It was picked up in the specially-decaled Kenworth by Gary Amoth, owner of Twin Falls, Idaho-based Gary Amoth Trucking.
Amoth was nominated to be this year’s tree hauler by local Kenworth dealer, Kenworth Sales Co. The tour across the U.S. will make 27 stops and will be lit during a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in December.
Tour stops for the tree include 15 in Idaho between Saturday, Nov. 5 and Monday, Nov. 14, before traveling into Utah, Colorado, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. The tree will arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Nov. 27 before it’s transported to the Capitol. The full schedule of the tour can be seen here.
