A sister company of the largest U.S. truck manufacturer has partnered with one of the most recognized insurers on the market to develop a connected insurance solution that streams telematics data to help fleets save on insurance costs.
Daimler Truck Financial Services USA LLC (DTFS), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, which is also the parent company of Daimler Truck North America, has launched Connected Insurance in collaboration with Geico. The program is contracted through DTFS’s subsidiary, Daimler Truck Insurance Agency LLC.
The new data-driven insurance program is designed to help Freightliner and Western Star owner-operators and small fleets save on premiums while promoting safer driving.
Connected Insurance combines Daimler Truck’s Detroit Connect telematics platform with Geico’s DriveEasy Pro program, allowing the insurer to collect telematics data to inform its underwriting. Freightliner and Western Star customers can voluntarily share their real-time telematics data without having to install additional on-board diagnostics or dashcam hardware in the truck.
“Real-time data from Daimler Truck’s telematics platform allows us to better assess risk, reward safe driving and deliver meaningful savings to our customers,” said Chris Sions, head of partnerships at Geico.
Insurance cost and availability is No. 4 on the American Transportation Research Institute’s 2025 list of critical issues in the trucking industry. Customers eligible for this program could save up to 10% on their commercial vehicle insurance premiums.
“This strategic partnership with GEICO introduces a smart, data-driven insurance option that helps our customers reduce one of their largest operational expenses,” said DTFS North America President and CEO Kevin Bangston.
