A recent fire in Sandy City, Utah destroyed 11 of the city’s 18 snow plow trucks.

The blaze, which occurred inside a public works building, also destroyed a salt truck and caused roughly $5 million in damages. No injuries were reported.

One-hundred firefighters and 20 fire trucks responded to the fire around midnight Thursday, according to fox13now.com. It took four hours to knock down and proved to be the largest structural fire Sandy Fire Chief Bruce Cline has fought in his 25-year career.

“It was a difficult fire just because of the amount of fuel in there you had rubber tires diesel fuel and a lot of equipment,” Sandy City Fire Chief Bruce Cline said.

The building did not have fire sprinklers. It was built 40 years ago before sprinklers were required.

City officials are exploring leasing and purchasing options. A snow storm is expected in Sandy City this week, but officials say they will still meet the city’s needs.
