FMCSA’s registry hack kinks driver exam info: FMCSA maintains that no carrier or driver information appears to have been compromised in the recent hack of its online National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Medical examiners, however, say they’re holding on to backlogs of driver exams that haven’t been uploaded to FMCSA, given the site’s outage. What’s more, information potentially at exposure in the hack could lead to fraudulent medical certificates, they said. Read more on the matter this week on CCJdigital.com.

Trailer aerodynamics â€” the total package: While add-ons and other devices can improve trailer aerodynamics and boost fuel economy, each component is part of a trailer-wide ecosystem. CCJ Equipment Editor Jason Cannon will examine in-depth this week the various components of trailer aerodynamics and how they work in tandem to produce greater fuel efficiency. See Cannon’s in-depth look at the role driver coaching plays in managing mpg from November for a primer.

E-commerce’s supply chain wrinkles — and its impact on carriers: Online shopping continues to transform the economy’s retail sector and, with it, trucking operations. CCJ Tech Editor Aaron Huff this week will this week explore e-commerce’s effects on carriers’ operations, including how its changing their buying decisions. See CCJ‘s Tech Toolbox entry here from December for a primer on e-commerce’s ongoing pressure on trucking industry operations, and see a piece here from October by Huff on how connected vehicles are helping fleets tackle the challenges of online commerce.

Stay tuned.
