Trucking news and briefs for Monday, Dec. 11, 2023:

One of 10 recently revoked ELDs reinstated

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Thursday announced that the CI ELD Logs device by CV Options LLC has been reinstated to its Registered ELDs list.

The device was one of 10 removed from the list last week. FMCSA last week said it placed those ELDs on the Revoked Devices list due to the providers’ failure to meet the minimum requirements established in 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A (functional specifications for ELDs).

Any operations using the CI ELD Logs device can now put it back into service after having to revert back to paper logs or logging software over the last week.

FTR hosting 2024 transportation outlook webinar in January

FTR will host a complimentary Transportation Outlook webinar on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. Eastern, that will focus on key factors affecting freight demand in the trucking, rail and intermodal sectors. The webinar is open to all.

The webinar, “Transitioning to Growth in 2024,” will examine some of the key risk factors facing the rail and intermodal space over the next year so that shippers and carriers can be tuned into the metrics most likely to signal a change is imminent. Meanwhile, trucking has been stuck in an uncharacteristically stagnant period of weak market conditions. The webinar will explore some key variables that could lead to an inflection, including economic forces that bolster or deflate freight demand.

The webinar will be moderated by Jonathan Starks, CEO of FTR, with Eric Starks, chairman of the board, and Avery Vise, vice president, of trucking, exploring:

  • Economic forces that could bolster or deflate freight demand
  • Several factors could either prop up driver capacity or accelerate its exit from the market
  • Rail service and regulation will again be in the spotlight as the Surface Transportation Board will no doubt remain busy in the new year

The pies were donated as part of the bakery’s regional school fundraising campaign. Schools that participate in the “Patriotic Pies” program earn funds as their supporters purchase MoonPies. The school supporter making the purchase can choose to receive their order, or they can direct their MoonPies to be sent to members of the military. Schools all over the Southeast took part in fundraisers to donate pies to soldiers at Fort Campbell.

“We at USO Fort Campbell cherish the donations of fresh-baked MoonPies from the ‘Patriotic Pies’ project made possible by schools and their supporters," said Ann Jarvis, executive director, USO – Fort Campbell. “They are a delight, and we always see smiles when service members receive them across Fort Campbell and our surrounding military community. The USO serves the people of our military, and fresh-baked MoonPies make that a little more delicious!”

“Averitt is proud to play a role in any project that shows appreciation to members of the military, especially with the holiday season approaching. We were honored to provide the transportation for the ‘Patriotic Pies’ program,” said Barry Blakely, Averitt president and chief operating officer. “At Averitt, we have a special appreciation for our men and women in uniform. We are a veteran-owned company. About 15% of our associates are veterans. And we’re proud to have won several awards for hiring veterans and for our commitment to provide meaningful benefits to military personnel.”
