In a video posted to the battery-electric Semi’s X account, Tesla showcased the truck charging at a staggering 1.2 megawatts (MW).

The truck itself is more than five years overdue, and Tesla’s Megacharger has been a subject of speculation for years. Even Tesla's fleet partners, who have already integrated the trucks into their operations, have not made charging performance data public.

The Tesla Semi requires roughly 3.4x the power and 9x the battery capacity of a top-tier passenger EV to meet its long-haul performance targets. The Tesla Semi requires roughly 3.4x the power and 9x the battery capacity of a top-tier passenger EV to meet its long-haul performance targets.

To hit Tesla’s ambitious target of recovering 70% of its 500-mile range in just 30 minutes, the truck requires a massive energy intake. Given that the Semi's battery pack is estimated at 800–900 kWh, it necessitates a power output far exceeding the 250 kW or 350 kW standards typically used for passenger electric vehicles in North America.

Tesla says it plans to ramp production of its electric Class 8 in the coming months.
