Landstar awards scholarships

The Landstar Scholarship Fund has awarded five college scholarships worth a total of $17,500 for the 2005-2006 academic year to children of Landstar agents, business capacity owners (BCOs), employees and other affiliates. The awards recognize outstanding undergraduate academic performance and civic involvement.

“The recipients are well-rounded individuals who succeed both in and out of the classroom and whose qualities exemplify Landstar’s determined commitment to excellence,” says Henry Gerkens, Landstar president and CEO. “The winners represent the future of America. We’re proud they are a part of the Landstar family.”

The winners are:

  • Kendria L. Cartledge, the daughter of a Landstar BCO, who earned $5,000 toward her education at Clemson University, where she is majoring in health science;
  • K. Matthew Kochan, the son of a Landstar employee, who was awarded $5,000 toward his education at Virginia Tech University, where he is majoring in finance and business information technology;
  • Dustin K. Brown, the son of a Landstar employee, who received $2,500 toward his education in economics at Westminster College;
  • Desiree Hammons, the daughter of a Landstar BCO, who was awarded $2,500 toward her education in criminal justice at Eastern Kentucky University; and
  • Darvy L. Mann, the son of a Landstar BCO, who earned $2,500 toward his studies as a speech communications/pre-med major at the University of Texas at Tyler.
  • To be eligible, candidates must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours prior to the application deadline. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full time (12 or more credit hours) at the sophomore, junior or senior level at an accredited two- or four-year college or university. The deadline to apply for 2006-2007 scholarships is April 28, 2006.
