Tennessee truck lane restrictions announced

A Tennessee law originally passed in spring 2005 that bars trucks from driving in the far left lanes took effect at the end of October but cannot be enforced until notifying signs are posted.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation now is working to place signs across the state to alert truckers of the new rules in specially designated interstate sections and controlled access roadways around the state.

The new law restricts truck tractors and semi trailers to the right two lanes of travel in designated areas of eligible highways. The restrictions do not apply when trucks are passing other motor vehicles. Buses are not subject to the restrictions.
