Class 3-8 vehicle drivers nationwide will be given another chance to win a total internal, external and communications makeover worth $50,000 when the second annual Castrol Tection Extra Big Honkin’ Truck Makeover kicks off Aug. 1.

From Aug. 1 through Oct. 31, participants with ailing vehicles are encouraged to go to the Castrol website to learn more about the contest and how to enter. Entrants will be required to submit a vehicle photo and a 50-word essay saying why they deserve the grand prize.

The first contest was launched in 2005. Jeff Fields, an owner-operator from Tully, N.Y., was selected as the grand prize winner at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. Fields’ 1979 Peterbilt received a complete makeover package courtesy of the Chrome Shop Mafia.

Contest entries will be judged on originality, creativity, relevance of essay to theme and photographic appeal. Three finalists selected by an independent panel of judges will advance to the final round. Starting January 2007, individuals nationwide will be able to vote online for their favorite finalist. Mid-America Trucking Show attendees also be able to vote for their favorite finalist March 22 and 23 at the Castrol Tection Extra booth. The winner will be announced the final day of the show.
