Sitton Motor Lines was recognized as a leader in community safety education at the Alliance of Southwest Missouri Awards Banquet, held Oct. 26.

The Joplin-based company received the Outstanding Partner in Community Change award for its Public Safety Education Program, which has presented its driver safety message to more than 23,870 students since Sept. 1, 2005.

The program’s “No Zone Truck” travels throughout Missouri and the surrounding states teaching young drivers to share the road with commercial vehicles through a presentation that includes videos and reminders of area collisions, as well as a message about attentive driving.

Bill Housley, Sitton’s director of recruiting, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Sitton’s public safety education coordinator, Laszlo T. Laky, also received an award for “Making the Most Difference” in the Southwest Missouri Region.

Sitton is also a partner with the Coalition for Safer Missouri Roadways, a group consisting of transportation professionals and interested citizens who implement programs and events to educate the public on buckling up and who are working to bring the state’s annual fatality rate below 1,000 by the year 2008.
