TMW Systems, a provider of enterprise management software designed specifically for the trucking industry, announced today, March 12, the release of its newest mobile communication product offering — OnRoute. Available on April 2, OnRoute is the first application to launch on the Qualcomm Mobility Services for Transportation platform running on Sprint’s Nextel National Network, delivering a cost-effective, easy-to-deploy driver communications solution designed for the needs of the trucking industry, TMW says.
Based on TMW’s D2Link mobile communications solution, OnRoute combines the dispatch-centered functionality of D2Link with Qualcomm’s data security and message management capabilities. Available by subscription on a range of Nextel handsets and combined with Sprint data and voice services in monthly billing, OnRoute is the freight industry’s most flexible, integrated and cost-effective mobile phone-based communications solution, according to TMW.
OnRoute is designed to transform GPS-enabled wireless phones running Java into convenient driver communications devices for affordable and efficient trip communications, vehicle location tracking and load assignments integrated with company operations. All dispatch-to-driver communications — ranging from up-to-date pick-up/delivery schedules, customer information, and even road conditions and accident alerts — are triggered right from the dispatcher’s workstation. Driver trip status updates and information requests can be processed automatically through OnRoute dispatch integration to keep order data and truck locations current for the dispatcher at all times and reduce time-consuming and more costly voice calls.
“Our relationship with these companies provides us the opportunity to reach out to more of our customers and other transportation companies in need of a cost-effective solution that will provide crucial, up-to-date information to drivers on the road,” says David Wangler, TMW Systems president and chief executive officer. “This solution is perfect for almost any trucking company. Companies already using mobile communications can easily add OnRoute to cover those portions of their fleets where conventional in-cab systems are not cost-justified. Others can adopt this well-integrated solution with low upfront investment.”
OnRoute can complement existing advanced mobile communications systems to cover unequipped fleet segments such as local delivery fleets, owner-operators and seasonal/temporary drivers. TMW offers a standard integration to OnRoute with TMW’s enterprise management system software, including TMWSuite for Windows, TruckMate for Windows, and TL2000. For companies utilizing either in-house developed or other commercial legacy dispatch systems, messaging middleware designed to communicate in a variety of operating system platforms — including iSeries, Windows client-server, UNIX or Java — is available through TMW.
Additional benefits, according to TMW, include:
