Marten Transport (CCJ Top 250, No. 37) Executive Chairman Randy Marten has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, effective Oct. 1. Current CEO Tim Kohl is retiring Sept. 30, ending a nearly 18 year career with the Mondovi, Wisconsin-based carrier.

“We are very thankful to Tim for his tenure as CEO and previously as President with the company since joining us in 2007," Marten said. "He championed the company’s transformation to a multifaceted business that led to a period of unprecedented growth, often during complex and challenging environments. It has been a privilege to work with Tim, and we wish him the best in his retirement.”

Marten has been a full-time employee of the fleet since 1974 and has been a Director since October 1980 and Executive Chairman of the Board since May 2021. Marten previously served as Chairman of the Board from August 1993 to May 2021, Chief Executive Officer from January 2005 to May 2021, President from June 1986 to June 2008, Chief Operating Officer from June 1986 to August 1998 and as a Vice President from October 1980 to June 1986.

One of many changes in 2025

This year has thus far been one of transportation for Marten Transport. The company in July sold its intermodal assets to Hub Group (No. 34). The $51.8 million sale offloaded 1,200 refrigerated containers to Hub Group's temperature-controlled intermodal business.

Randy Marten said the sale was to bring "clarity and focus to our integrated business strategy," adding the carrier would continue to operate its multifaceted business offering a network of time and temperature-sensitive and dry truck-based transportation and distribution capabilities across five distinct business platforms: temperature-sensitive and dry truckload, dedicated, brokerage and MRTN de Mexico.
