Contract Freighters Inc., which has equipped all its 2,300 company-owned tractors with Michelin X One wide single tires, is one of 13 fleets to win a 2006 SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Bruce Stockton, the fleet’s vice president of maintenance, credits the award to the transition that the company began in 2004 by equipping its tractors and trailers with Michelin X One wide single tires.
The EPA’s SmartWay Excellence Award honors trucking-industry initiatives to save fuel and reduce emissions. Other winners of the 2006 award include:
