Worldwide deliveries from Mack Trucks for the month of January totalled 1,623 units, down 47 percent from the corresponding period a year ago, the truck maker announced. North American deliveries totalled 1,443 units, down 49 percent from the same time last year, the Lehigh Valley, Pa.-based company said.

Mack said the pace of deliveries has slowed due to the downward production adjustment made to meet lower demand of more expensive 2007 trucks. All truck makers have added additional equipment to their ’07 models to meet tougher U.S. emissions standards mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Volvo Trucks reported deliveries in North America of 3,661, down 31 percent from last year’s 5,284. Worldwide deliveries are up 5 percent, from 14,300 to 15,019, the company said.
