Iteris Inc., a provider of vision-based technologies and Intelligent Transportation Systems that optimize traffic flow and enhance driver safety, announced Thursday, June 7, that TMC Transportation, the nation’s largest privately-held flatbed carrier, will make Iteris’ Lane Departure Warning System standard equipment on its fleet of tractors.
“We are very pleased to add TMC to our growing list of satisfied customers,” says Bill Patrolia, director of North American truck sales for Anaheim, Calif.-based Iteris. “TMC is one of many fleets who have field-tested our LDW system and are moving forward with deployment on the majority of their fleet. Iteris has more than 69 additional fleets in test, and we expect many of them to standardize our LDW system. These 69 fleets have a combined total number of tractors in excess of 146,000.”
TMC plans to install LDW on all new tractors beginning immediately and will retrofit most of its newer trucks in the current fleet. Iteris says the addition of TMC brings the total number of North American fleets that have standardized its LDW system to 44; these fleets have a combined total of more than 24,000 tractors.
“We’ve been testing the Iteris system for some time with a select group of drivers,” says Glen McCravy, executive vice president of risk management and human resources for Des Moines, Iowa-based TMC. “The feedback from the drivers has been extremely positive, and our ROI analysis in terms of accident reduction shows that the investment will pay off.”
Iteris says it has sold more than 35,000 LDW systems to the heavy truck market worldwide, representing an estimated billion miles traveled per year.
