Averitt Express chooses Skybitz trailer tracking, honors 8 employees

Averitt Express, a provider of freight transportation and supply chain management, has chosen the Global Locating System trailer-tracking technology from SkyBitz. The Cookeville, Tenn.-based company also recently honored eight employees — including four drivers — for 20 years of service.

Averitt Express initially is deploying SkyBitz trailer-tracking technology for the more than 4,000 trailers in its truckload fleet. Based on a successful implementation and return on investment, Averitt Express plans to implement the technology for its less-than-truckload and dedicated fleets. Averitt Express says it is employing SkyBitz trailer-tracking technology to improve productivity and equipment utilization by knowing where every trailer in the fleet is at any given moment.

“We completed a comprehensive ROI analysis for several trailer-tracking providers, and we chose SkyBitz based on the cost of the units and installation costs,” says David Henry, the company’s director of system design. “We also chose SkyBitz because we feel its satellite tracking capabilities are superior to cellular.”

The eight employees honored for their service are among more than 250 Averitt associates who are members of the company’s “Over 20 Team,” a group of associates who have served 20 or more years with Averitt. Drivers recognized were Clarence Brooks, of Blountsville, Ala.; Randy Harris, of South Fulton, Tenn.; Danny Howell, of Alvaton, Ky.; and Jerry Merrell, of Hickory, Ky.
