Pennsylvania authories target impaired drivers

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation along with local and state police are targeting impaired drivers in an enforcement crackdown during the week of June 18-24. Authories are conducting checkpoints and roving patrols during the enforcement wave with a special emphasis on motorcyclists. Alcohol-related crashes claimed 544 lives on Pennsylvania roads in 2006. PennDOT spends about $4 million a year on DUI enforcement, including funding for more than 400 sobriety checkpoints.
