Navman Wireless Business Solutions, a global provider of vehicle tracking and fleet management solutions, announced Monday, July 23, the addition of the advanced new Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) 860 as the latest enhancement to its asset-tracking system – the Navman Wireless Fleet Manager.
An optional add-on to its basic vehicle-tracking package, Navman’s MDT 860 is designed to offer fleet managers advanced driver management and mobile communications capabilities. Using OnlineAVL – a Windows-based mobile work force management interface – fleet managers can send low-cost, reliable and secure two-way text messages to the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), Navman says.
The MDT is designed to enable drivers to receive real-time information, including en-route updates and directions, and allow them to respond to fleet managers using as many as 100 customizable, preprogrammed replies. The solution, which also incorporates features for driver management, can be set up to require a unique driver PIN number to facilitate logging driver activities, the company says.
Navman says features of the new MDT 860 include one-touch menu navigation; multi-tap (mobile phone style) alphanumeric keys for insertion of letters, numerals and syntax for free-form text message composition; an auto-scroll display for quick and convenient message viewing; pop-up indicators for new messaging alerts (e.g. “new messages,” “inbox full,” “login successful,” etc.); a message outbox that maintains a record of all communications sent from the device; and the ability to delete sent and received messages. For a personalized feel, the MDT 860 also allows users to configure a number of items such as font size, backlighting and buzzers. The enhanced OnlineAVL client interface incorporates new reports that enable customers to review driver logs, according to the company.
