The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel climbed nearly 7 cents for the week ending Monday, Sept. 24, to $3.032, up from $2.964 the previous week. On a year-over-year basis, the price jumped nearly 44 cents.
The average price increased in every region tracked by the U.S. Department of Energy. The biggest increase – almost 8 cents – was in the Lower Atlantic at $2.993. The highest price was in the Central Atlantic at $3.124, and the New England region had the second-highest price at $3.100. Buyers in the Gulf Coast paid the least for diesel at $2.971.
