Menlo Worldwide — a global provider of logistics, transportation management and supply chain services and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. — recently announced that it has been selected by BSH Home Appliances Corp. to design, deploy and operate a regional distribution center for fulfillment of Bosch consumer products to retail outlets throughout the Midwestern United States.

Menlo’s solution for BSH will take advantage of the company’s established multiclient distribution operation in Aurora, Ill. The Aurora center was chosen for its central location, rapid ramp-up capability and ability to provide timely, cost-effective inventory management and fulfillment services for BSH’s customers.

Under the contract, Menlo will provide BSH with 30,000 square feet of warehouse space as well as an integrated package of logistics management services, including:

  • Inbound receipt, inspection and storage of BSH Home Appliance products;
  • Bulk rack, shelf and security-controlled warehouse space for BSH;
  • Inventory management and order processing;
  • Order fulfillment for outbound orders being shipped to multiple BSH Home Appliance retailers and distributors throughout the Midwest; and
  • Technology systems for warehousing management, performance analysis and cost reporting.
  • The contract represents an expansion of Menlo’s relationship with BSH Home Appliances in the United States. Menlo currently manages a similar operation in New Jersey that also utilizes one of Menlo’s multiclient distribution centers. The facility opened in May 2007 and consists of a 40,000-square-foot operation dedicated to BSH Home Appliances that provides receiving, put-away, inventory management, order fulfillment and distribution for the customer’s high-end home appliance product line to retail outlets throughout the Northeast United States.

    “Menlo provides the industry-leading logistics capabilities we need to respond to the market quickly and efficiently,” says Patrick Franke, director of logistics for BSH. “The company’s adoption of Lean practices was very important, as it will ensure continuous improvement and effective order fulfillment in a damage-free environment. This partnership will help ensure that the quality experience our customers have come to expect from BSH products will be reflected in our distribution and fulfillment operations as well.”

    “We are very pleased to expand our relationship with BSH to include distribution of its home appliances throughout the Midwest,” says Robert L. Bianco Jr., president of San Mateo, Calif.-based Menlo Worldwide. “Our Lean expertise combined with industry experience and a process-based approach to improvement is what differentiates our team. We’re honored to be part of the BSH Home Appliance expansion strategy in North America.”
