The Environmental Excellence Awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay Transport Partnership, in recognition of top environmental performers, were announced Monday, Oct. 22, at the annual conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in Philadelphia.

SmartWay is an American Trucking Associations-EPA partnership designed to improve the environment while boosting the bottom lines of trucking companies. SmartWay helps identify and popularize practical, money-saving techniques to increase fuel efficiency, reduce idling and slash emissions. The SmartWay awards recognize national leaders in this effort. Thirty-four companies and organizations from among more than 600 SmartWay Partners received the award.

“EPA is pleased to recognize Partners with SmartWay Excellence Awards,” said Margo T. Oge, director of EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality. “The award winners are leading the way toward a cleaner, more efficient transportation future with strategies that reduce emissions and increase profits.”

A total of 16 motor carriers were honored, including ATA members Contract Freighters Inc. (CFI), Knight Transportation, Langford, Meijer, Roehl Transport, Schneider National, Swift Transportation and Wal-Mart.

Other motor carriers honored were CSX Transportation, John Christner Trucking, Metropolitan Trucking, Orlicks, P.A.M. Transportation Services, Quad/Graphics, Smithfield Transportation Co. and TransAm Trucking.
