Xata Corporation announced that Austin Powder, a privately-held manufacturer and carrier of commercial explosives for construction, mining, quarrying and seismic exploration, has selected Xata’s on-demand, web-based Xatanet software to improve the safety, compliance and security of its fleet. Austin Powder owns the 60th largest dedicated fleet in the nation.

The Cleveland, Ohio-based explosives manufacturer operates in excess of 600 company-owned vehicles, on which Xatanet will be deployed on a combination of Class 6, 7, 8 trucks and medium duty trucks using OBD-II systems that must comply with State and Federal hazardous material regulations.

“Understanding driver behaviors and equipment functions are crucial to safe fleet operations,” said Dave True, vice president for Austin Powder. “With Xatanet, our fleet managers are able to create exceptions-based alerts to proactively address inefficient driving habits and improve driving behaviors for increased safety.”

To help reduce the number of potentially hazardous vehicle-operation situations, Xatanet provides real-time engine warnings, which can be electronically sent to a customer-specified list of fleet management and safety personnel. Xatanet also measures fuel usage, vehicle idle times, speeding time and driver-shifting patterns.

“Austin Powder is a safety conscience company that requires the same emphasis on safety, security and compliance from its suppliers that it provides for its customers,” said David Gagne, executive vice president, sales and marketing for XATA. “They selected XATA because of our emphasis on quality and our strong commitment to safety and compliance.”
