KLLM Transport Services announced that four of its drivers were top award winners at the Mississippi Trucking Association’s Truck Driving Championships held recently in Tupelo. Awarded were Paul Brownlee, first place, Four Axle; Troy Bernard, second place, Five Axle; Ricky Bowe, second place, Three Axle; and Harold Sowers, second place, Flatbed.

“KLLM is extremely proud of and appreciates these drivers for their dedication and service to KLLM and our industry,” says Wilson Risinger, director of safety for the Jackson, Miss.-based company. “They exemplify what it means to be a professional driver. We offer our sincere congratulations to these drivers in recognition of their accomplishments.”

The purpose of the driving competition is to improve safety by promoting, encouraging and rewarding safe and responsible driving practices. Drivers complete a written examination to test their knowledge of the industry, driving rules, first aid and other key subjects. Drivers then complete field-testing to measure their ability to identify safety defects in the equipment. Lastly, drivers maneuver tractor-trailers through obstacles to test their ability to operate safely in close quarters.

“Our company’s strength is our drivers, and we are proud of the safety record we have achieved,” says Jim Richards, KLLM president and chief executive officer. “Safety is of main importance to us, our customers and the motoring public. KLLM is fully committed to the practice of safe driving.”

As a first-place winner, Brownlee advanced to the National Truck Driving Championship, which will be held in August at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
