Volvo Trucks North America announced Friday, Nov. 7, that it now offers its D12 series engines as a North American remanufactured product. The company says remanufacturing the Volvo D12 in this market offers customers increased availability, faster delivery times and a significantly lower cost, backed with a two-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
The Volvo Reman D12s are remanufactured at the Middletown Remanufacturing Center in Middletown, Pa. Customers can order Volvo Reman D12s through their Volvo Truck dealer. Each engine is delivered as a “basic engine” (also known as a “long block” or “3/4 engine”), which allows customers to reuse external engine components such as alternators from their original D12; previously, remanufactured D12s for North America were shipped from Europe as complete engines.
Each Volvo reman basic engine includes a remanufactured cylinder block, cylinder head, accessory drive, connecting rods and oil pump; the engine also includes new piston rings, cylinder liners, bearings, bushings, gaskets and seals. “The Volvo D12 series enjoys tremendous success with customers who value its performance, reliability and fuel economy,” says Darin Redmon, engine marketing manager of parts marketing for Volvo Trucks. “Remanufacturing the D12 gives customers a cost-effective option for extending the operating life of their Volvo VN or Volvo VHD, with new engine performance.”
Volvo says its remanufactured D12 engines are completely disassembled and cleaned, and that each component receives a rigorous in-process inspection, measured against the company’s original equipment and reman specifications. All critical components and “high wear” items are replaced with new components, according to the company, and machining of remanufactured components includes stringent quality control processes, using precision CNC machining centers, to ensure performance and reliability standards are met.
