Telogis, a global platform for location-based services, announced that its OnTrack WorkForce application, a GPS management application built for field personnel, was selected Best-in-Class by the Sierra Wireless & Wavefront Developer Program. The application is a Web-based GPS management application coupled with connected satellite navigation running on a Sierra Wireless-enabled laptop.

Telogis says OnTrack WorkForce includes many features, including navigation with streaming satellite imagery and heavy truck attributes, custom GIS map overlays and custom forms driven by a Wiki language. WorkForce is built to run with Telogis’ OnTrack solution, an Enterprise fleet management application that features mapping, reporting, exception alerts, engine diagnostics, dispatching and routing, as well as a dashboard designed to manage 10,000-plus unit deployments.

According to the company, the additional features of WorkForce allow personnel to increase efficiency in the field through:

  • Effective management of large fleets;
  • Advanced commercial vehicle navigation, including restrictions such as tunnel heights and bridge weights;
  • Custom routing rules to determine the most direct route;
  • Wireless filing of DOT/HOS compliance data and forms; and
  • Optimization of multiple-stop routes.
  • “Satellite imagery and GIS overlays are important to companies in varied industries,” says Jason Koch, president of Irvine, Calif.-based Telogis’ OnTrack group. “For example, our utility and energy customers use these tools so they can see where their electrical infrastructure and assets are — eliminating guesswork and wasted time. WorkForce is a direct response to the call for increased operational efficiency given the current economic climate.”

    The Sierra Wireless & Wavefront Developer Program was established to find best-in-class enterprise or consumer applications that take advantage of the mobile broadband and GPS capabilities built into Sierra Wireless PC cards, ExpressCards and USB modems. Judging panelists included representatives from AT&T, Telus, Wavefront, Sierra Wireless and other industry experts.

    “Our mission is to accelerate commercialization for wireless and new media developers, and this joint development program was a great opportunity to showcase the tremendous innovation within the market,” says James Maynard, president of Wavefront. “Through this partnership, we’ve been able to bring forward five exciting new applications, including Telogis’ OnTrack WorkForce for Sierra Wireless.”
