BorgWarner’s Cool Logic variable speed fan drives now are available as an option on International ProStar class 8 trucks. Based on four million miles of fleet testing, Cool Logic fan drives improve fuel economy up to 3 percent (depending on route terrain, truck load and duty cycle) compared with traditional fan drives, according to BorgWarner.

“With the average semi-truck logging 150,000 miles a year, a 3 percent increase in fuel economy can equate to substantial bottom-line savings for fleets operating thousands of trucks,” says Alfred Weber, president and general manager of Auburn Hills, Mich.-based BorgWarner Thermal Systems. “More miles to the gallon also means less pollution. With the added benefits of a quieter drive and reduced maintenance, BorgWarner’s Cool Logic fan drives are a smart option for truck fleet owners.”

Designed with electronic variable speed control, Cool Logic fan drives provide consistent, precise temperature control that automatically adjusts to load and road grades for improved torque response and 15 percent reduction in fan power consumption, according to BorgWarner. The fan drive’s actuation logic system is designed to deliver quiet operation to increase cabin comfort and reduce driver fatigue. In addition to fuel savings, Cool Logic extends the life of the entire cooling system, including the radiator and charge air cooler, and reduces wear on serpentine belt components, the company says.
