Lakeville Motor Express has announced the addition of a second Chicago area terminal service center. Customers in the Chicago market now will be served by two full-service less-than-truckload distribution terminal facilities.

Northern tier cities will be served by the newly opened 65-door facility located in 11201 Irving Park Road in Franklin Park, while southern tier customers will be served out of a modernized 60-door location at 7526 S. State Road in Burbank. Lakeville says both terminals are equipped with the most current information technology to ensure complete shipment visibility and efficient operations.

Lakeville has teamed up with fellow Reliance Network provider Averitt Express to conduct joint operations out of the two Chicago area facilities. Averitt is providing local pickup-and-delivery services for Lakeville out of both terminal locations, with each company maintaining separate linehaul, sales and customer service functions.

“An additional terminal in Chicago gives us more operational flexibility and allows us to put more trucks on the street,” says Al Bucher, executive vice president of Lakeville. “Customers – especially those in the outlying areas – will notice a definite service improvement since we will not have as much stem time from our terminals.”

Bucher says teaming up with Averitt in the Chicago market is “a fantastic use of operational resources. Since we were already serving many of the same customers, both of us will be more productive. This is a testimony to each company’s commitment to The Reliance Network. Not only does this expanded Chicago operation further strengthen the Network’s seamless service concept, but it just might be the model for joint operations in other markets as well.”

Lakeville Motor Express, with 34 terminals in 10 Midwestern states, has been serving northern Illinois and Chicago since 1989.
