ALK Technologies, a developer of navigation and transportation software, announced that its CoPilot Live satellite navigation system now is available for Android-based mobile phones. ALK says it can be purchased and downloaded immediately from Android Market for devices such as HTC Magic, HTC Dream and the new HTC Hero.
CoPilot Live brings the latest developments in turn-by-turn GPS navigation technology and real-time travel information to the Android platform, according to ALK; users benefit from detailed voice-guided turn instructions and 3D mapping, helping them to find their way wherever they go.
In common with the Windows Mobile-based and Symbian product, CoPilot’s digital street maps are stored on the phone, rather than relying on mobile Internet connectivity for per-trip data, the company says; additional map regions also can be downloaded directly to the device.
According to ALK, a range of CoPilot Live services, delivered via the phone’s mobile Internet connection, are designed to make journeys more predictable and include real-time traffic alerts, five-day weather forecast information and a new location-sharing service called CoPilot LiveLink.
“The release of CoPilot Live for Android and its availability for download via Android Market is a major milestone in our quest to provide full-featured navigation to the largest possible number of smartphone users,” says Michael Kornhauser, vice president and managing director for Princeton, N.J.-based ALK Technologies’ CoPilot division. “We are delighted to extend CoPilot to Android and, in doing so, help more people find their way easily in-car or on foot.”
ALK says CoPilot Live brings the latest navigation innovations to Android, including:
