A tanker truck, a tractor-trailer and a car were involved in a fiery crash near Detroit late Wednesday, July 15, that set the tanker’s load of fuel on fire, causing the collapse of an overpass over Interstate 75 north of Detroit.

A two-mile stretch of I-75 was closed in both directions between I-696 and 8 Mile Road, which forms the border between Hazel Park and Detroit. Michigan State police were consulting with the Michigan Department of Transportation to reroute traffic around the site. The stretch of highway was expected to be reopened Monday, July 20.

Police said the driver of the car, a 27-year-old man, apparently lost control of his car along a curve and swerved into the tanker, causing its cab and trailer to separate.
