FedEx Corp. announced the appointment of Fred Schardt as president and chief executive officer of FedEx Trade Networks, the company’s international ocean and air freight-forwarding subsidiary. FedEx also announced that its shareholders elected David P. Steiner, CEO and a director of Waste Management Inc., to the corporation’s board of directors.
Schardt is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of FedEx Trade Networks, as well as the company’s global operations and product portfolio. He has spent more than 35 years in the international freight forwarding, transportation and logistics industries. He joined FedEx Trade Networks in 2008 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. During his time with the company, he has realigned operations and standardized service offerings to optimize the FedEx Trade Networks international freight-forwarding portfolio. He also is leading an aggressive global expansion plan, which includes an increased freight-forwarding presence and office openings in Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Schardt replaces FedEx Trade Networks’ previous president and CEO, Ed Clark, who retired Sept. 30.
FedEx’s board appointed Steiner for a one-year term as a member of its Audit Committee. “David’s proven leadership skills and high level of personal and professional ethics will further strengthen the independence and quality of our board of directors,” says Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx Corp., based in Memphis, Tenn.
